Every single member, but one, of the kitchen staff at The Rainbow Room stopped what they were doing and stood at attention when Royalty walked
through its legendary swinging doors. Julia Child was dining at the restaurant, and came into the kitchen looking for her friend - and then RR owner
Tony May.
When she couldn't find him, she went over to the only member of staff still working, my husband Albert. She asked what he was doing, he
responded with something like
“Ms. Child it’s a pleausre to meet you and all but I have a dining room full of people waiting for their food - and I need
these people to keep working.” Impressed, Ms Child spoke to Albert for a bit and watched him work. She then told him he should quit. “Your
commitment and dedication to this craft proves that you have what it takes to go in business for yourself” and that someone ‘like you would never be
truly happy working for someone else’. After graduating CIA, and years of working for other chefs, Albert already knew she was right - he gave his
notice and began the journey that got us here.


Having grown up in Yonkers, Albert’s culinary career began at the original A&S (where his great-grandmother shopped) working for founder Anthony
Scicchitano - his initials are the A and the S. Mr. Scicchitano was always impressed with Albert and pushed him to pursue culinary arts, so it was back
to Mr. Scicchitano he went to get the blessing to open an A&S in Connecticut - where we had recently moved. The blessing wasn't a guarantee - it
was reserved for a rare few, only those who had worked directly under Mr. Scicchitano, and he gave his blessing whole heartedly.


Over the years Albert opened a few A&S’s, one in Stamford, one in Norwalk - but he had partners that didn’t share his vision - so he turned to me one
day and said
“we’re going to open one together in Westport, and it’s going to be an A&S for a new generation - all the classics but with a focus on
fine foods and international retail - not just cans of tomatoes.”


A&S Fine Foods Westport was born - in the town we lived. It took off like a rocket, and we later sold Norwalk and Stamford so Albert could finally and
truly work for himself - just like Julia Child inspired him to do all those years ago.


After many years working for Jean-Georges Vongerichten, I had resigned - as the commute to Westport was too much. So I had all the time in the
world to focus on his, now our, new dream. I was in charge of the retail - bringing in innovative products from Brazil, France, Spain, and, of course, Italy
- I made sure we had - and still have - every ingredient you could find in an Italian grandmother’s pantry. Albert ran the kitchen and blew people away
with his cooking, and stunning catered events. Every single day we hear:

“this is unlike any other A&S I’ve ever been to, it’s the best of all worlds”.


Albert passed away in 2021 and his dream - that had become our dream, became my dream - a commitment to honor him by continuing to innovate
and inspire with new takes on old favorites, creating new favorites, producing magical events, offering hard to find ingredients, and introducing new
products - so we can remain
the A&S for a new generation.


With the help of my staff - who have been with us since day one - and our great customers, I am able to honor the commitment I made to carry on

providing great food made with the highest quality ingredients just like my husband did.

We work with local butchers, fish markets, and farms to source the finest
ingredients possible.


Our Gourmet Store features bold new products from the worlds best
purveyors, hard to find items for that classic dish, and everything you need
to serve the best meal possible including antipasto items, imported cheeses
and meats, and prepared foods.


We specialize in offering customized catering menus for personal and
corporate events; as well as seasonal and holiday menus.


A&S offers full service catering, event production, and corporate catering.

We can also provide professional staff for our catered events including
chefs, prep, servers, bartenders, and bussers.


We have relationships with a multitude of rental companies, florists,
entertainment providers, transportation and valet parking services.


ABOUT US

Our CIA, and Johnson & Wales trained chefs have been providing
innovative culinary experiences for over 30 years and have worked
in the finest hotels, restaurants, private clubs, and professional
environments. They are on staff daily to ensure you have the best
experience possible.

Chef Chris Gesualdi has earned 3 Stars from The New York Times - and
was former Sous Chef to Thomas Keller.


He has also worked, or done stages at such acclaimed restaurants as

Montrachet, Per Se, wd~50, and Blue Hill.


He has created menus for everyone from Charlie Chaplin to Lucille Ball -
Paul McCartney to Oprah Winfrey - and many luminaries in between.


Exclusively for A&S Events, Chef Chris creates menus for our wedding
clients to ensure their big day is as flavorful as it is beautiful.
